Our Story

Robert L. Hill, Sr., established Hill’s Service Company in May of 1965. He worked for a heating and air-conditioning business during his young career, starting in 1952. The owner of that company decided to close the business, so Robert had to make a business decision that would shape the footprint of his life and his family’s life in the future. He had to decide whether to look for employment with another company or start his own business. He could begin a business, but he would not be able to do installation work for two years. So, with $5000, Robert L. Hill, Sr. purchased a service department, truck, tools, parts, customer list, and began his own heating and air business calling it Hill’s Service Company. The shop was located behind his home at 205 Linden Avenue, in Laurens, SC . He continued there until 1967, when he moved into another residence as his family grew. Mr. Hill then relocated the shop to a small building at the bottom of the hill of Chestnut Street Extension and Highway 221, in Laurens. The shop remained at that location until November of 1972 when it was moved to the present location of 2621 Highway 221 South. Since that move, the current building has seen two additions added for company growth.

Hill’s Service Company was incorporated in December of 1974. Through the years, the company has experienced growth by adding service technicians and system installation crews. By its ten year anniversary, the company grew to five employees and four trucks, equipped with radio communication and equipment enabling each technician to respond to on demand service calls. By 1981, there were seven employees and six trucks allowing the company to reach even further throughout the community to meet the needs of Laurens County residents. To date, the company has seen as many as 17 employees and 11 trucks serve Laurens County and other areas within the surrounding areas.

In late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Hill’s Service Company serviced residential HVAC systems and sold residential appliances to help meet the needs of its customers in home comfort. Many of those systems included heat pumps, oil furnaces, gas furnaces, and Geo-Thermal systems. The residential appliances included Jenn-Air, Kitchen-Aid, and additional products to provide customer satisfaction throughout the community. However, many of the home appliance brands were discontinued in the mid 1980’s. In 1977, the business began to work on commercial refrigeration equipment. In June of 1996, additional services were introduced to its customers, and received a tremendous response from customers. Today, Hill’s Service Company, Inc. provides services for residential and commercial customers including; heating and air conditioning, commercial refrigeration, ice machines, duct cleaning, and air filtration. Other services recently being offered by Hill’s Service Company, Inc. are digital controls, zoning systems, and more emphasis on the commercial services. Other programs the company holds certifications in are Energy Star Certification and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Hill’s Service Company, Inc. deals with most major brands, placing emphasis on the higher efficiency lines. However, our goal is to meet the needs of every customer’s economic needs.

In February of 1993, Robert L. Hill, Jr. (Robbie) was named President and Michael (Buddy) S. Hill was named Vice President/Secretary/Treasurer, with Robert L. Hill, Sr. serving as Chairman. Mr. Hill, Sr. retired from Hill’s Service Company, Inc. on September 26, 1996, leaving Robbie and Buddy to direct the business. Hill’s Service Company, Inc. was founded on the one basic principal, to take care of the customer’s needs by providing quality service. The primary concern today is still the same as the day we started, and that is to ensure total customer satisfaction and beyond.

Hill’s Service Company, Inc. is family owned and operated; however, the word “family” is also meant to include the people working for the company. This business is a family working together, with a total team effort to accomplish the common goal of total customer satisfaction, one customer at a time.
